Liposuction for Face and Neck

Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure that removes excess deposits of fat to slim and reshape specific areas of the body.  It can be performed in the face and neck to improve the contour of the cheeks and area beneath the chin, helping to improve your appearance removing your double chin, jowls or even your turkey neck for a more defined look.

What Are The Benefits Of Liposuction For The Face And Neck?

Liposuction of the face and neck offers several benefits to the patient, including

  • Removes unwanted fat from around your cheeks, under the chin and neck.
  • Improves the appearance of a “double chin” or fullness under the chin.
  • Refines the jawline to enhance the chin or bring balance to facial features.
  • Can be combined with chin augmentation or rhinoplasty to further enhance facial contours.

Who Is An Ideal Candidate For Liposuction?

You are an ideal candidate for liposuction of the face and neck if

  • You are within 20 – 50 years of age
  • You are within 30% of your ideal weight
  • You have firm, elastic skin, and good muscle tone.
  • You are healthy and do not have a life-threatening illness or medical condition that can impair healing.
  • You are a non-smoker.
  • You have a positive outlook and specific goals in mind for facial plastic surgery.

Why Is There A Specific Age Range Recommended For Liposuction For The Face And Neck?

Because liposuction removes excess fat and doesn’t improve sagging skin, the ideal patient is usually younger between the ages of 20 and 50, as younger patients typically have good skin elasticity, which is necessary for the skin to contract smoothly and evenly after liposuction.

For patients who are bothered by sagging, loose skin on the face or neck, they may want to consider a facelift or neck lift procedure in combination with liposuction for the best aesthetic outcome.

What Can You Expect During The Procedure?

Liposuction can be performed in the operating room at one of our accredited hospitals or surgery center or, alternatively, at our North Texas office location, which is equipped with state-of-the-art technology designed to mitigate the risk of complications and maximize the likelihood of successful treatment outcomes. During the procedure, small incisions are hidden beneath the chin and behind the earlobes and the fat removed by use of a thin cannula passed below the skin. The cannula is connected to rubber tubing, which attaches to a machine that generates high vacuum pressure to suction out the fat.

What Kind Of Anesthesia Is Used?

Liposuction may be performed on an outpatient basis with general anesthesia or under sedation and is generally very well tolerated.

How Long Does The Procedure Take?

If liposuction for the face and neck is done alone, it can take up to 30 minutes.  If combined with other facial plastic surgery procedures, such as a facelift or neck lift, all together it may take 3 to 4 hours for the combined procedures.

What Can You Expect After Treatment?

After treatment, elastic bandages may be placed to cover the treated area. For neck liposuction, patients typically wear a special supportive chin strap for about 5 or 6 days. These are both used to help control swelling and compress the skin to your new contour.

Are There Any Aftercare Instructions?

Dr. Pero will give you specific instructions after your treatment, which may cover

  • Caring for the surgical site
  • Medications to apply or take orally to aid in healing and reducing the potential for infection or bruising.
  • Addressing specific concerns to look for at the surgical site or in your general health.
  • Scheduling a follow-up appointment with Dr. Pero

Are There Any Side Effects From The Procedure?

A small amount of swelling and bruising is typically seen after surgery, which should resolve during the first 10 to 14 days.

How Soon Can You Expect Results?

Following surgery, a significant improvement is seen and this continues to improve for several weeks or months as the soft tissues continue to contract with the healing process.

How Soon Can You Return To Normal Activities?

Patients can return to work within 1 week after surgery and can be ready to return to full activity after about 2-3 weeks.

Is Liposuction For The Face And Neck A Safe Procedure?

Liposuction is a safe procedure, especially when performed by a qualified facial plastic surgeon.
